Your Host

Let us introduce ourselves. Our names are Barbara and Keng Tan.

We retired to our farm ‘Inilah’ – ‘This is It’ in bahasa Malay – and are staying active growing Christmas Trees and running our cottage, ‘Christmas Tree Cottage’, as a farrmstay.

We are striving to attain a sustainable retirement lifestyle. We are installing solar panels on the cottage to offset the power demand from the farmstay, without jeopardising your comfort. We will continue to add solar panels to our other farm buildings (or maybe add wind turbines if feasible) until we are able to generate enough of our own ‘green’ power to at least meet the total power needs of the farm.

Of our 12 hectares (31 acres) we grow Christmas Trees on about half the area. Our trees are grown on a sustainable basis. The trees we harvest are replaced and the fast growing young trees absorb the carbon dioxide released by the harvested trees. In this way we are happy to say our Christmas Tree business is carbon neutral.

We are keeping the other half of ‘Inilah’ for the native flora and fauna of the area. We have stocked the dams with native fish and we delight in every sighting of native animals and birds. We are planting natives and are identifying more and more native flora species growing up naturally as the years pass since we excluded grazing animals from the property when we bought it.

We love our ‘little piece of heaven’ and want to share its peace and natural beauty with you after you’ve had a hard day’s touristing in Canberra or around the area.

The Cottage

Christmas Tree Cottage is on a working Christmas Tree farm. It is a self-contained cottage with 2 Family suites available for rent for short or medium term accommodation. Whole cottage rate is also available. Pet dogs are welcome but limited to a maximum of 2.

Each of the Family suites has a Master bedroom (with TV) and a Twin bedroom. The suites has its own front entrance access, reverse cycle heater/air conditioner, ensuite bathroom and toilet. The cottage has a TV room and a dining/kitchen area available for your use

There is an area of about 10 acres around the cottage where you can pursue outdoor family activities. Or you can explore the whole 31 acres of the property with its dams, birds, grasslands and of course the Christmas trees.

Check in and Check out times

Check in is 2 pm and check out is no later than 10 am.

No Smoking policy

There is a 'No Smoking' policy within the cottage and throughout the farm for the comforts of other guests and fire safety in the rural setting. Please do not apply if you cannot comply.

Please be informed

Guests are invited to enjoy walks or activities at the farm. The farm has 3 dams over the 31 acres and parents with young children should be aware that the dams are huge and deep and are not fenced.

The Cottage has an enclosed backyard fence but guests need to use their own discretion to check whether it is safe for their children or pets and if it is not, to adopt mitigating controls. There are wild flora and fauna (eg snakes, ducks, kangaroos, shingle back lizards, wild orchids, etc) that are resident on the property. This is a working farm and if you have any issues regarding safety or fire hazards please discuss with us.

On departure, the cottage must be tidied and all appliances, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans that you have used must be washed, dried and put away. Failure to do so will incur a cleaning fee without notice.
